So it helps to know a simple way to calculate the amount.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In landscaping work, we usually use three units:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Their sizes are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Inches are used for small measurements, such as the thickness of wood or materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Feet are used for measuring garden spaces, like the width and length of a yard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Yards are larger units. Landscape materials are usually sold in cubic yards<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A cubic yard means:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Length (yard) \u00d7 Width (yard) \u00d7 Height (yard)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n This gives the volume<\/strong> of the material.<\/p>\n\n\n\n First, calculate the area of the space where you will place the material.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Area is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Length \u00d7 Width<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n For squares or rectangles this is easy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n For irregular shapes, simply divide the space into several smaller sections.
